David Luzzi, Ph.D., MBA, is the Senior Vice Provost for Research at Northeastern and Vice President of the Northeastern University Innovation Campus in Burlington, Massachusetts (ICBM). He is also Chair of the Board of the George J. Kostas Research Institute at Northeastern University, LLC, a former Dean of the College of Engineering, and a Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Professor.

Luzzi leads applied research programs funded by the U.S. Army, Navy, and Air Force on materials and manufacturing, expeditionary cyber, expeditionary maneuver, shipyard modernization, and the detection and countering of autonomous systems. As a professor, Luzzi has extensive teaching and research experience in materials, nanoscience, and atomic-level structures and processes. His research program executed projects for the Army, Navy, Air Force, NATO, National Science Foundation, NASA, the European Union, and other international, federal, and state agencies and corporations.

As the Vice President of the Innovation Campus in Burlington, Massachusetts, Luzzi applauds the history of the Burlington campus and the impact that the use-inspired research completed within the unique ecosystem has on human health, security and sustainability of our planet. The research completed at ICBM is driven by the challenges that currently exist in our society and around the world. The essential question and mission of the ICBM Campus according to Luzzi is, “How, in the modern world, can we be a great research university and make a major impact?”

The strategic research in three key areas including health, security and sustainability, along with valuable partnerships in industry, government and academia contribute to the success and robust impact the Innovation Campus has made in the world.
