Research Partner Model
ICBM Partners with innovative researchers in academic, industry, government organizations and early-stage companies. Our research partner model includes; agile collaboration between a large network of partners; flexible intellectual property arrangements, high trust environment; and rapid tech transition which enables fast development from inspiration to product completion.
Agile Collaboration
ICBM works with academia, industry, and government partners to create meaningful collaborations. There are many opportunities for collaboration with different partners & entities. Our large network of partners allows us to bring together the best organizations and people to help solve challenges.
CloseRapid Tech Transition
Our unique facilities and technology, along with our collaborative approach allows for rapid development from idea to prototype, to commercialization.
CloseFlexible Intellectual Property
Scientists and researchers can claim prior IP rights in order to protect the patenting rights. When developed collaboratively, each partner shares any IP developed, providing great value to researchers and businesses.
CloseHigh Trust
KRI at Northeastern University, LLC (KRI) – a wholly owned subsidiary of the University that is headquartered on the ICBM campus – was a recipient of the 2023 James S. Cogswell Award. The Cogswell Award is the most prestigious honor the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) can bestow on the industry. The security protocols in place at the Kostas building, the headquarters for KRI, were specifically designed to support all levels of DoD secure work.
CloseProduct Development Timeline
ICBM supports innovation from the initial stages of idea generation through the commercialization process. Though complex and sometimes time-consuming, the development process is not usually a linear one, but rather one that takes an iterative route to the ultimate goal. ICBM supports our partners from academia, government agencies, industry and early-stage companies at each step of this process. (Timeline adapted from massinov.org)

Learn MoreCampus Community Engagement
The ICBM Campus is truly a unique place in that it is home to industry partners, early-stage companies, academia and government agencies. In this one physical space, there are laboratories, meeting rooms, offices, resources and near-constant formal and informal collaboration. Community engagement and collaboration within the research community may take the form of annual gatherings such as a summer BBQ or more formal gatherings such as Lunch-and-Learns where members of the Innovation Campus can learn what other groups on campus are working on and where support, assistance or brainstorming may need to happen. Community engagement reaches far beyond our campus as well to include collaboration with local, regional and state-level organizations. Some recent examples include our collaboration between our drone engineers and Robotics Club students from Burlington High School as they utilized our drone facilities for their latest project. At the municipal level, ICBM attends Town of Burlington-sponsored events, and join committees such as the Real Estate Development Committee and Town Advisory Committee. ICBM also hosts meetings at the state level in our conference facilities.
